Lent - Pray, Fast, Give. It's time to fill our Rice Bowls!
Welcome to Week 2 of CRS Rice Bowl 2020. Home is often our place of comfort and safety—something we take care of, where we sleep, eat, and spend time with our family. As you read these stories or watch these beautifully produced videos, we can "see" the contrasts between our ways of living and those of our neighbors, but also the similarities in what we value - primarily family.
This week you can go a little deeper by investigating the needs and the CRS projects in Kenya. Go to https://www.crs.org/our-work-overseas/where-we-work/kenya.
"Today too, there is a need to appeal to men and women of good will to share, by almsgiving, their goods with those most in need, as a means of personally participating in the building of a better world." (excerpt from MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR LENT 2020)
When you donate to CRS Rice Bowl, you share your life and your abundance with these families and others like them. Your generosity puts nutritious food on their tables and helps them lead healthier lives. As Jesus teaches us in the Gospel story of the loaves and the fishes, your small offering can feed many, and what may seem like a little, can actually be a lot.
By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already very late. Dismiss them so that they can go to the surrounding farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” He said to them in reply, “Give them some food yourselves.”
Give them some food yourselves. Jesus did not hesitate when his disciples suggested dismissing the large crowd. What does his command mean for us, today?
